Hi Kindergarten parents,
SNYL is excited to announce the commencement of our introduction to lacrosse program for kindergartners, starting Spring 2018.
The Program: We will focus on the basic skills, such as cradling, scooping, catching and throwing in the most positive manner with everyone having fun. The program will be kept in-town so the girls and boys can focus on the skills without the “pressure” of competing.
For the girls, we are planning to make this a two-year program before we have the girls compete in the travel program in the 2nd grade. In 2019, this will be the K-1 program. The boys travel program will continue to start in 1st grade.
We are targeting a 6-week program, Sunday morning sessions for an hour. The sessions will most likely be held at Phillips park between the 8 am to 10 am, one hour each for the boys or girls. This will allow our more experienced youth players and high school players to coach as their town games are in the afternoon. Also, soccer is on Saturdays so we will avoid that conflict. The plan will be to build on the skills from each week. Depending on the # registered, we are planning to have 6-10 players per team with least 3-4 coaches per team.
GIRLS: SNYL will supply (on loan) both the stick and eye protection goggles and each player will receive an SNYL reversible piney. You would be responsible to supply your daughter with a mouthguard. We decided to have the girls use regular sticks and balls so they will become more comfortable each practice with the type of lacrosse equipment they will use all the way through college!
BOYS: The U7 program will use regulation lacrosse sticks which you will need to buy (buy the cheapest stick you can find, usually around $35). A helmet, gloves elbow pads and chest potector/shoulder pads are needed. Mouth guards are encouraged. Contact at this level will be held to a minimum, i.e., there may be some incidental, but control over their sticks will be closely monitored.
Cost: $60 per player for the season of which $30 is for US Lacrosse Insurance. The remainder of the fee is for our town field user fee, an SNYL reversible piney, and some general equipment costs.
Registration will open December 27th, 2017 to the April 21st, 2018.
Assistance: We welcome any and all parent assistance for sessions. Please reach out to me if you have any questions.
